Linpac Packaging has launched a new series of stretch film reel OxoLIN made of polyethylene with the addition of an oxo-biodegradable additive that facilitates the degradation of the material in its primary components, thus reducing the impact on landfills or in the case of abandonment in the environment (the so-called litter).
While not biodegradable in the strict sense (at least according to European or American, which set a maximum period of 180 days for complete biodegradation of the polymer under subsidiaries), Linpac claims for these films and qualitative performance characteristics comparable to those of conventional stretch film, as well as compliance with EU standards on food and contact with European directives on packaging waste.
According to the company, the films have a useful life (shelf life) of more than 12 months after use and degrade over a period of one to four years.
