DuPont rewards packaging

The winners of the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation.

There is a lot of 'green' projects among winners of the twenty-second DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation, and it is no coincidence: the themes of this year, on which focused the jury (led by John Bernard, president of Sustainable Innovations LLC), related ideas , reduce cost and waste greater sustainability, all in the name of '"collaborative innovation".

packaging Of the 160 projects submitted in the competition were selected 16: two were awarded with the 'Diamond', five with the 'Gold' and you are with the 'Silver', then there are three mentions Special for innovative problem-solving.

If only two of the winning projects in Europe, is still good to know that one of these is the result of "Made in Italy (the other is Polish): This is the meat in modified atmosphere packaging with shrink film with antifog properties, Cryovac Mirabella, patented by Sealed Air - Italy.

Partly Europe is also the Gold award won by Procter & Gamble (USA and Germany) for the redesigned and optimized packaging systems to reduce storage of materials by 80% and 25% amount of material used, specifically through the bags "wicket" polyethylene packaging technology in a continuous flow.

He won one of two first prizes (Diamond Award) Greenbox, the innovative packaging system for the transport of medicines and medical supplies in a controlled temperature, developed by the American Entropy Solutions , outside a shell of high density polyethylene reusable within a phase change material (PureTemp) made from renewable and an insulation panel made from nanotechnology, all to ensure the maintenance of content temperature at about 120 hours.

Under the green also Gold award won by the bottle PlantBottle developed by Coca Cola with PET in part from renewable raw materials, or up to 30% ethylene glycol derived from sugar cane. Be noted that the innovative bottle can be recycled without any problems in the normal processing circuits for PET bottles produced in contrast with other biopolymers.

curious glass / bottle of wine in plastic disposable Copa Wine,
view of a fast-drink consumption at outdoor or
events, a solution that will be debated by the nose to the connoisseur, but surely that will meet the interests of producers. The wine is bottled directly in a "glass" plastic disposable 187-ml shelf life of one year.
The absence of a bottle saves 50% of waste arising from packaging materials.
The weight of plastic is 30% lower than the glass, thus reducing the carbon footprint.
The challenge was, in this case, seal the glass without damaging the wine.
worth reporting, among the projects selected by the jury, the packaging for snack compostable developed by Frito-Lay North America division of PepsiCo: the traditional multilayer film has been replaced with a structure based on polylactic acid, adhesive (also compostable) and internal coating.
no doubt also innovative Ethafoam High Recycled Content plank, closed cell polyethylene foam with recycled content of up to 65% for transport packaging, the product of a collaboration between Sealed Air and Austin Foam Plastics. In the absence of a sector for the recovery and recycling of this material has been developed in a closed-loop circuit for the management of packaging at the end of life.
Finally, we polypropylene pallets recyclable injection foam, developed by Femsa (USA) that promise lasts twice as long (six years instead of you) than regular plastic pallets.
